I watch some artists, as well, but I watch the real time ones, while I'm also working on my own. It's like hanging out and making things side by side with a friend.
I resonate with this so much! Except time lapse of plants growing or absorbing water are still super satisfying for me, bc there’s nothing for me to compare myself to. It’s just plants being planty!
I love the discussion here about video and time-lapse, I have also felt it’s grip on my sense of reality and my own capabilities.
I also wonder about the opposite side of video--streaming. Some of the most popular videogame streams are related to “progging” which is basically the process in which people fail repeatedly as they learn game mechanics. It’s not art but it is fascinating how much you get out of watching incremental progress, which rarely completes in a single stream.
Snapping film photos exercises my imagination. I just realized as I typed this that consuming social media causes me to feel like my imagination is being sucked dry. Eek.

Just absolutely speaking to the part of me that is avoiding my art homework today. 😂 well said
