Thanks for sharing! I believe I’ve come across the term monotropism before, but I forgot about it. I really identify with the concept, so it’s nice to have another term that describes my experiences. I completed the study questionnaire in less than 20 minutes. Not bad, considering that I was trying to “multitask” as I did it 😂
Oh my... I was diagnosed in my late 30's with ADHD, but I just took the attached test and fell smack in 50% percentile of those with autism and more monotropic than 97% of allistic people. What the heck does that mean? I just thought that it was my ADHD that caused all of my struggles.
I found out about monotropism through this Video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mBbOOzhoGQ and I was like: wow.... Yeah thats my brain. Thank you so much for sharing. And I am really happy that this is a survey considering us self-identified autistics as well 🥰
I want to read your 2021 article on ADHD and autism being similar and share it with a friend but it's paywalled, is there another way to view it? (Apologies if this is a revenue source for you and I'm being rude.)
Thank you for sharing this, Jesse. I never thought I'd find such an interesting piece in 2026, haha. I received my ADHD assessment feedback last week from my clinician and was told that I, in fact, do not have ADHD. However, my profile fits the criteria for autism, more specifically being monotropistic. I had never heard of the term before and did not know what to think of it.
I've been spending some time researching it, and it does make sense to me, haha. Anyway, thank you for this, and I hope you're doing alright!

Thanks, survey completed. I had no idea I worked this way until recently.

(This link - https://jessemeadows.medium.com/whats-the-difference-between-adhd-and-autism-fcdea6b3973d - it made me make an account but then it still says I have to pay for medium premium to read it.)
oh my bad, I should have used the friend link thing that gets around mediums paywall: https://jessemeadows.medium.com/whats-the-difference-between-adhd-and-autism-fcdea6b3973d?sk=6b1347b117cbdaa17452c4a6353b2b6c

Yep, thank you!
