Notes on contagious madness, disgust, and the internet

this week's video essay extras!

I did a bunch of reading for my Digital Madness video, but the hardest part of writing is editing. There’s always more left out than can be included (except, I guess, when you make a four-hour deep dive, which me and my RAM cannot yet handle).

Structuring video is a puzzle I am still figuring out, and I have renewed respect for every video essayist!! Translating a script into an interesting audiovisual experience is honestly way harder than it looks. I have learned! I have been humbled! There’s a lot I edited out of this one, so I thought I’d collage some more interesting stuff from my notes for paid slugscribers.

We got: the law of magical contagion, a great podcast on mass psychogenic illness, the most metal quote I’ve ever read about homophobia, and some more ideas about wtf internet addiction actually is.
