Today was the one of those vague tension and can’t keep a beat days, knock over cups and stub a toe days, wandering and worrying days—and at the end of it I pressed play on the podcast that I keep forgetting I subscribed to and as I listened I kept saying yep yes uh huh right exactly.
Two things: damn capitalism makes us try to harness the muse for profit (not to be grandiose, but insofar as the work moves us, we serve at its pleasure, you know? Muse like that) I appreciate you calling that out.
And second: Rocket League is a video game where you have a limited menu of chat statements but usually barely communicate with other players. yet it’s a team match that’s like a mixture between soccer and hockey and basketball in terms of plays forming in the moment and communication taking place at a level of mutual understanding that brings to mind pack behavior, schools of fish behavior, the group as the organism, at least when you are playing well and in the flow. It’s fascinating to imagine these brains electrically syncing through the shared medium of the screen and controllers.
